Todor KobakovSeptember 19, 1978 ~ Pianist, arranger, composer Todor Kobakov born in Sofia, Bulgaria ~ As a recording artist best known for his critically acclaimed 2009 Pop Music album. The album features mostly instrumentals inspired by Kobakov's life experiences in both Bulgaria and his adopted homeland Canada. Notably present on the band's 2007 Better In The Dark album, which spawned the singles Don't You Wanna Feel, I Never Liked You, and What You're On, before leaving the band in 2008. Married to Natalie Bassingthwaighte, the band's lead singer, with whom he has two children
Love MachineSeptember 19, 1975 ~ R&B group the Miracles release Love Machine (Part 1), lifted off their City Of Angels album ~ When Smokey Robinson departed the band in the early 1970s to pursue a solo career, after fronting the band for over a decade and writing, co-writing and producing a significant amount of the band's material, many feared the band would lose its appeal. However, now featuring lead singer Billy Griffin, and adopting a funkier, more disco-oriented sound, the band did score several hits through the mid 1970s. Do It Baby and Don't Cha Love It would both reach No.4 Billboard R&B. The following year, Love Machine (Part 1), would also reach top 10 Billboard R&B as well as No.1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, making it only their second Billboard Hot 100 charttopper after The Tears Of A Clown with Robinson some five years earlier. Love Machine (Part 1) would be the band's all-time best-selling single, selling well over 4 million copies. Alas, it would also be the band's last major hit. The band recorded several more albums over the next few years, one for Motown and two unsuccessful albums for Columbia Records, but fell out of favor by the late 1970s. However, their legacy remains as one of the most influential R&B groups to emerge in the 1960s and Motown's top-selling act. The label's founder Berry Gordy Jr has been quoted as saying that “without the Miracles Motown would not be the Motown that it is today”

Ventura HighwaySeptember 19, 1972 ~ Folk rock, folk pop outfit America release Ventura Highway, lead single off their Homecoming sophomore album ~ There is no actual Ventura Highway, however, there is a Highway 101 running through Ventura County, California. The song was inspired by a childhood memory of Dewey Bunnell, as he would later explain: “It was 1963 when I was in seventh grade, we got a flat tire and we're standing on the side of the road and I was staring at this highway sign. It said Ventura on it and it just stuck with me. It was a sunny day and the ocean there, all of it” The single would reach No.8 Billboard Hot 100, making it the band's third consecutive top 10 hit after A Horse With No Name and I Need You. In 2001, Janet Jackson would interpolate the song on her Someone To Call My Lover hit. Jackson's producer suggested to build a song around the America hit, to which she readily agreed

Red FoleySeptember 19, 1968 ~ Clyde Julian Foley, commonly known as country, gospel, rockabilly singer, guitarist, banjoist, songwriter Red Foley, passed away in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA ~ Dubbed “Mr Country Music” Foley was one of the most popular country singers of the 1940s and 1950s, selling over 25 million records. His 1951 rendition of Peace In The Valley hit recording, originally recorded by Mahalia Jackson in 1937, would become one of the first gospel songs to sell over a million copies.
