July 10, 2024 ~ Country, pop singer, guitarist Dave Loggins, full name David Allen Loggins, passed away in Nashville, Tennessee, USA ~ Best known for his 1974 Billboard Hot 100 No.5 hit Please Come To Boston, lifted off his Apprentice (In A Musical Workshop) sophomore album. Over the years, the song would be covered by numerous artists, including notably Tammy Wynette, Joan Baez, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Royal, and Reba McEntire. Loggins recorded three more albums through the end of the decade. However, despite critical acclaim, as a solo singer he would fail to repeat his earlier success. Others did reach the charts though with songs penned by Loggins. Three Dog Night had taken Pieces Of April to the Billboard Hot 100 top 20 back in 1971, while both Kenny Rogers and Juice Newton scored a mid-1980s Billboard Country No.1 hit with one of his songs, respectively Morning Desire and You Make Me Want To Make You Mine. Others who recorded songs written or co-written by Loggins include Tanya Tucker, Rita Coolidge, John Conlee, Alabama, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Dave Grusin, the Bellamy Brothers, Johnny Cash, and Wynonna Judd. July 10, 2023 ~ Rock singer, songwriter Bob Segarini, full name Robert Joseph Segarini, passed away in Toronto, Canada ~ Cult hero, known best perhaps as co-founding member of folk rock outfit the Wackers, with whom he recorded the albums Wackering Heights, Hot Wacks, and Shredder before the band disbanded in the mid 1970s. The band had earned critical acclaim during their brief lifespan, drawing comparisons to the Hollies, the Beatles, and Crosby Stills & Nash. A fourth album, Wack'n'Roll, remained unreleased. Previously, Segarini had worked with the Ratz, which included the then-unknown guitarist Gary Duncan of later Quicksilver Messenger Service fame, Roxy, and the Dudes. Following his tenure with the Wackers, Segarini recorded four solo albums, notably Gotta Have Pop released in 1978, before pursuing a career as a radio host from the mid-1980s onwards ~ Segarini was born in 1945

Following his stint with Monroe, Berline would go on to become an in-demand collaborator, especially noted for his role in several pivotal country-rock acts. Following Glasser's release the song would be bought by RCA Records who gave it to singer Tony Martin. Part of the deal was that Glasser would pull his release. The following year the song would be covered by the Crew Cuts, whose version became a million-seller.
