Everything Is BeautifulMay 30, 1970 ~ In its 9th week on the charts, Everything Is Beautiful by Ray Stevens hits No.1 Billboard Hot 100 ~ The odd one out, as Ray Stevens was mostly known for his novelty songs, the gospel-inflected Everything Is Beautiful served as the theme song to his own variety show, The Ray Stevens Show, which aired briefly in the early 1970s. It would become his first Billboard Hot 100 charttopper and earned him a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Male Vocal Performance. The song featured both his daughters and a children's choir. Years later, Stevens would recall: “I needed a very special song for the program. I went down in my basement for about three days. I had crumpled paper all over the place. And suddenly the idea for the song came to me. I wrote it in maybe 45 minutes. It was a very special song and one that a lot of people still remember and sing along when I do it in shows”
