June 10, 1989 ~ In its fifteenth week on the charts, Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler hits No.1 Billboard Hot 100 ~ Initially written as a mid-tempo song by Nashville songwriters Jeff Silber and Larry Henley, slowed down to a ballad by their music publisher, Silbar and Henley would have a hard time finding anyone to record the song. It would be a full year before Roger Whittaker recorded it for his 1982 album of the same name. The following year both Lou Rawls and Gary Morris recorded their respective covers, the former scoring a minor hit with it on the Billboard R&B charts while the latter's reached No.10 Billboard Country. However, when Bette Midler covered the song for the soundtrack of Beaches, a comedy-drama in which she also starred, it became a worldwide hit and reached top 10 in several countries including the UK, New Zealand, Australia, and America. June 10, 1975 ~ Funk, R&B outfit the Average White Band release Cut The Cake, their third studio album ~ The followup to their immensely successful AWB album, which had brought the band international stardom with the surprise Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hit Pick Up The Pieces, the recording of Cut The Cake was plagued by artistic differences within the band with band members walking out on several occasions. Producer Arif Mardin had even considered pulling the plug, yet persevered. It paid off, the title track Cut The Cake would be the band's second and final Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, peaking at No.10, and would earn the band a Grammy Award nomination. Two other singles off the album, If I Ever Lose This Heaven and School Boy Crush, reached top 40 on the American pop charts, peaking respectively at No.39 and No.33

Despite disappointing chart success, critics had welcomed the disco remake by the Jackson 5, with Record World adding that the band “(took) the opportunity to salute their initial career sparker (Diana Ross) with a smash in return”. The siblings would release one more single for Motown, the poorly-charting All I Do Is Think Of You off the same parent album, before leaving the label and continuing at Epic Records as the Jacksons

A 1975 TIME article cited That's The Way (I Like It) as an example of sexually suggestive songs, along with Love To Love You Baby, that were all the rage.
