The Swedish pair had previously worked with Grande on No Tears Left To Cry, God Is A Woman, and Break Up With Your Girlfriend (I'm Bored), all of which reached top 10 Billboard Hot 100. In the nu-disco house track Yes And Ariana Grande implores the listener to rely on their resilience and self-confidence to heal from pain, trauma and criticism. Songwriter Ilya would later recall on working with the song with Grande: “ I remember we were going through chords and she was like, ‘It needs to be more confident. It has to be more sassy’. January 12, 2024 ~ Actor, singer Bill Hayes, full name William Foster Hayes III, passed away ~ To pop audiences known for the single The Ballad Of Davy Crockett which topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1955, and sold over two million copies. Hayes would also star in a Broadway production of the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II penned musical Me & Juliet, and score several minor hits including The Berry Tree, High Noon, and Wringle Wrangle. Although Jackson would continue to release material as a singer, notably the mid-1970s albums Chant Down Babylon Kingdom and Deliver Me From My Enemies, he would become best known as a producer working with both upcoming and established artists including Wayne Wade, Michael Rose, Tommy McCook, Michael Prophet, Big Youth, Trinity, Dillinger, and Tapper Zukie. Jackson's productions would usually feature dominant basslines, aided by organs, horns, and soaring harmonies to create a meditative, spiritual atmosphere. Present on the band's two most successful albums, 1974's Kad Bi' Bio Bijelo Dugme and its follow-up Sta Bi Dao Si Na Mom Mjestu the next year, before being conscripted to serve in the Army. January 12, 1994 ~ Pop rock, soft rock singer Richard Marx releases Now And Forever, lead single off his Paid Vacation album ~ Written by Marx about his wife-at-the-time, actress Cynthia Rhodes, whom he had met on the set of the 1983 film Staying Alive and married in 1989. In 2012, he relayed in an interview: “It's really personal. Even though it became very universal, every line in that song is about me and Cynthia. It's about me and my wife. It's as if I sat down and wrote her a letter and just happened to put it to music.” The marriage didn't last forever though, they divorced two years after the interview. Richard's father, Dick Marx, had arranged the strings on the track. Now And Forever would be his final Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, peaking at No.7

January 12, 1990 ~ Pop singer Taylor Dayne releases Love Will Lead You Back, lifted off her Can't Fight Fate album ~ The song tells of feelings of love that still linger, even though the relationship is over, while at the same time implying the confidence they will eventually come back. Although Taylor Dayne would continue to record into the 2020s, she is best known for her first two albums, Tell It To My Heart and Can't Fight Fate, of which every single reached top 20 Billboard Hot 100. The biggest hit of the bunch, at least in America, was Love Will Lead You Back, her sole Billboard Hot 100 charttopper. The song's songwriter Diane Warren, who had previously written No.1 hits for Starship, Chicago, Bad English, and Milli Vanilli, considered Love Will Lead You Back one of her favorites: “I like the idea of someone being strong enough to let somebody go, knowing in their heart they're going to come back. It takes a lot of strength, and I'm always attracted to songs with strong characters”
 
January 12, 1989 ~ Pop outfit Roxette release The Look, lifted off their Look Sharp album ~ Written by band member Per Gessle as an excercise after having acquired a new Ensoniq synthesizer, The Look would be a massive international hit, topping the charts in over two dozen countries including America where it bumped Eternal Flame by the Bangles off the Billboard Hot 100 top spot. Gessle would later recall to Billboard: “I wanted to write a ZZ Top-type of song. It turned out to be something totally different in the end, which is always the case. I never really thought it would be a big song. I had it around for a couple of months before I played it for (bandmate) Marie Fredriksson and Clarence Öfwerman, our producer. They both said, ‘this is the best thing you've done in ages’.”

First in 1973, when it reached top of the charts in the singer's native America, as well as top 20 in Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands. In 1990, the song would enjoy a second run on the charts across Europe, including reaching the top spot in the UK, after it was used in a Levi's ad.
